Oh the joys of toddlers

Do you remember the day that your little one was born and how you couldn't wait for them to start walking and talking? Well I have to tell you that if you have a 2 year old you might want to reconsider your statement. I love my son to death but they call it the terrible two's for a reason. What do you do when they don't get their own way or they throw a fit because they just can? I am new to the parenting thing because this is my first child and it is hard. Everyone always says "that it will get easier" or "just keep calm and they will stop", but how do you know if you are not the one there when your toddler throws a temper tantrum? They are all different in their attitudes and the way they listen. My son will sometimes just start throwing a fit if I tell him to go play in his room where ALL of his toys are and he has lots of toys to play with. I don't understand why he doesn't want to play in his room, plus he has a stereo in there so he can listen to music too!
Does anyone have suggestions or comments about the terrible toddler years? I could definitely use some.

Pacifiers

What do you think of pacifiers? Do you love them or hate them? I think it all depends on the child. My son took a pacifier for about a year then just stopped. He really only used them when he went to bed to help with his teething.
Some parents worry about the pacifiers hurting their teeth, dropping on the floor, if their child will get attached to it and never give it up or other worries.
My thought behind them getting attached to it is that I think its better to have them attached to something like a pacifier that you can take away rather then have them be a thumb sucker that its harder to break the habit later on. A pacifier you can take away like we did with our son and just phase it out. A thumb is not as easy to do because you can phase it out or take it away.
They also have newer pacifiers for infants that help with the natural development of teeth and gums. My favorite brand of pacifier is Philips Avent BPA Free. Here is a webiste that tells all about them!

I know a lot of parents if your child drops or spits out a pacifier and it falls on the floor then what do you do? Well I say don't let it fall on the floor! I used pacifier leashes with my son when he was little. They were a great invention! You can attach one end to your child's clothes, stroller, carrier and so forth, and the other end you attach to whatever it is you are wanting to keep off the floor. I decided that since I loved it when my son was little I would try to make them. I found a pattern online for pacifier leashes and kind of did my own twist on it. They are vary handy to use for your little one. You can also use it for toys or other various things!

Here is one of the many leashes I sell on my Etsy shop!
Check out the rest of them here!

Thoughts

Everyday I wonder what would life be like without the many things that we use today. I use a computer everyday and don't know what I would do with out it. All my communication to my friends and a lot of family is through email and the internet. Why is it that we can't write letters or do things the old fashion way? Probably because we are so used to using the things that are high tech and faster, that we don't want to go back to the way things were. I would hate to think how I would manage Everything Precious without the internet!
Just think about being a mom back before we had all these high tech toys. Our kids fixate on the noise making advanced toys that we forget about simple blocks or playing with a carboard box. My son loves playing with his Thomas the Train Trackmaster toy and I don't think he would be happy if I took it away. Don't get me wrong, he loves his puzzles and blocks and coloring stuff too, but he does have quite a bit of electronic toys also.

Here is something I encourage all of you parents out there to think about. Would you ever go back to the way things were before there were electronic and high tech toys? Would you stop using the internet or watching TV? Some of us have no choice but to keep the technology because its part of our life and we need it everyday. Others, maybe you could take the time to stop and read a book or do something that has not technology advancement.
